Identify a public-username problem
This directory stores public usernames. If the destination no longer resolves, first compare the spelling with the local profile. A copied space, missing underscore or a different username can produce a different destination or no destination at all.
A private invitation failing is a separate case. It may be revoked, expired or require approval even when a public username elsewhere still works. Use the invitation guide when the app is discussing an invite rather than a public channel name.
Check without trusting a lookalike
Return to the local profile
Compare the full username with the one Telegram tried to open.
Read the current app message
A missing username and a restriction notice are different observations. Record the wording rather than assuming the cause.
Avoid automatic replacements
A similar name or an unsolicited message claiming the new channel is not sufficient evidence of continuity.
Report the mismatch
Give the listed username and the failure you observed. The directory cannot restore or reserve a Telegram username.
What the old record can tell you
The subscriber count and last-post date describe a historical record. They do not prove current control of the username. The snapshot also does not maintain a complete rename history, so it cannot reliably redirect you to a claimed successor.
If the problem affects every Telegram link rather than one username, check the browser-to-app handoff or your connection. If only this record fails, it is more useful to report that record than to change account settings across the whole app.
Questions
Can the directory recover a removed username?
No. Username availability and account control are managed by Telegram.
Should I trust a similarly named replacement?
No. Similar spelling alone does not establish that the same operator controls it.
Continue with the next question
The directory does not verify creator identity or the rights to individual posts. Report a changed or excluded listing. Read the snapshot rules.
